Travel Reward Credit CardsTravel rewards credit cards are intended for those with good to very good credit who want to gain the benefits of travel reward programs.  The programs are often slightly different in features but generally all provide miles of air travel for purchases on the credit card

When selecting a travel rewards credit card just as with any card, it's important to look at all the features in order to select a card which best meets the requirements inherent in the way you plan to use the card.

A travel rewards credit card is in many ways like unto a credit card from an airline because you get travel benefits or points in relation to the number of dollars you spend on the particular card. A major difference between travel rewards cards and airline 'frequent flyer' type cards is that the travel rewards cards allow you to use the cards for many purchases other than just for air mileage.  For example some of the travel rewards cards are connected with top end hotel accommodation chains such as Marriott, Hilton and Starwood Resorts and Hotels. You can use travel rewards points accumulated through card purchases in order to receive either discounted or free hotel accommodations anywhere in the world.

Since it is often more costly to pay for accommodations at a resort or hotel than it is for the airline tickets to fly to the destination, people sometimes overestimate the value of airline travel cards.  You should review your needs carefully, but you may find it is of more benefit to use a travel rewards card rather than an airline credit card.

Some credit card issuers recognize this dilemma and provide you with a choice of whether you prefer to earn flight miles or nights of lodging with the travel card points which you have accrued.  This option gives you a great deal of flexibility as to whether you want the air miles or free hotel accommodations.  For example, if you regularly fly on company business, you may already be accruing frequent flyer miles so additional miles would not be needed for a vacation jaunt, but the accommodations at the destination resort would be most welcome.  Conversely, if you already have arranged vacation accommodations at your destination, then the miles to get you there would be a preferred option.

TravelTravel rewards credit cards make sense for a number of reasons.  Usually accumulated points can be redeemed at any of hundreds of different hotels and can also be transferred to many of the major airlines.  Often, you will gain frequent flyer miles and may even receive extra miles as a bonus when you transfer them to the frequent flyer account with an airline. Because travel rewards cards are more flexible, they become the sensible choice for both work-related and vacation trips.

The important things to remember in choosing a travel rewards credit card include checking all the terms and conditions and determining how that will impact your payments.  You should compare features of various cards to see which works the best for you.
